CALCULATION GUIDE
Understand your calculation
Clear inputs, a practical example and the context you need to interpret your result.
How it works
Uses C1 × V1 = C2 × V2 to find final solution volume; it does not solve for the aliquot.
Inputs and units
Enter positive stock and target concentrations and stock aliquot volume. Target must not exceed stock. Select each unit explicitly; ppm here assumes a dilute solution of density 1 kg/L.
Worked example
100 mg/mL × 5 mL ÷ 10 mg/mL = 50.0000 mL final solution.
Interpreting the result
Make the aliquot up to 50 mL final volume. This is not 50 mL of solvent to add.
Assumptions and limitations
Assumes solute conservation and compatible concentration bases. Volume contraction, purity, density and chemical reaction are not modeled.
