CALCULATION GUIDE
Understand your calculation
Clear inputs, a practical example and the context you need to interpret your result.
How it works
Converts solute mass to mg and solution volume to L, then divides mass by volume.
Inputs and units
Enter nonnegative mass in ug, mg or g and positive final volume in mL or L.
Worked example
2 mg ÷ 0.5 L = 4.0000 mg/L, approximately 4 ppm if solution density is 1 kg/L.
Interpreting the result
The direct result is mg/L. Mass-based ppm is mg/kg; divide mg/L by density in kg/L to obtain mg/kg.
Assumptions and limitations
Density is not an input. Do not use the approximate ppm label for dense solutions, gases or mass/mass calculations without the required conversion.
